To catch rockfish, we use the methods of bottom fishing as they live all the way down in the rocks on the very bottom. This is a family and kid-friendly fish with lots of action throughout the day and you always have a rod in your hand waiting for the bite. As your rockfish charter, I ensure your group will have a great time, every time.

Rockfish is some of the most delicious fish you’ll ever eat, seriously. It is a white flaky cod meat, and it is not fishy-tasting at all. Rockfish is great for fish tacos, ceviche, pan fried or on the grill. This is not a fish that needs heavy seasoning, as you can’t go wrong with even just a little bit of salt and pepper with this fish.

To catch rockfish, we fish with life baits near the bottom such as sardines, swim baits, squid, and other live and artificial baits.

Rockfish are found all over the San Diego area coastline in anywhere from 100 to 300 feet of water. We find them as close as 1 mile, and as far as 12 miles in any direction. We have numerous spots and the action is always consistent with rockfish charters.

Rockfish are catchable all year round, and are available on all types of charters we offer. But there are certain restrictions and closures for spawning. The closures change every year and of course we stay up-to-date on that.

The limit for rockfish is 10 fish per person per day in both Mexico and California. There are specific types of rockfish with quantity limitations, such as Vermilion rockfish, and Copper rock fish. There are also a few species that are not taken, and that’s where it’s very helpful to have a good rockfish charter to ensure you’re always safe. We carry the sending devices to release the rockfish that we cannot keep.

Rockfish are fairly easy to catch as long as we are in the right spot and they want to bite. We catch numerous different species of rockfish on the bottom and you never know what you’re going to pull up.
