Yellowtail CHARTER in SAN DIEGO, CA

FROM Captain DAn of Fish Further Charters:

Yellowtail is a very unique fish species in the aspect that it lives, both coastal and offshore. They live right off the beach year-round and go offshore in the summertime to spawn. Often, you will find a kelp patty offshore that is loaded with them and you can limit out pretty easily if you find the right one.

Yellowtail are absolutely delicious. Great on the grill, great for fish tacos, and great for sashimi. It freezes as well when vacuum sealed, and you can eat it up to a year later.

To catch yellowtail, we use various fishing methods such as trolling, fly lining, and slow trolling sardines. We also cast often, at times as well. Their favorite lure to eat is a surface iron.

Yellowtail can be caught inshore, as well as at the Coronado islands and offshore. They are a target species for every trip type that we offer.

They can be found anywhere from right off the beach to anywhere offshore. All of the local islands are great spots for them also. Generally, we catch them just off the coast in the wintertime and in the summer, we can get them offshore and at the islands as well.

SAn Diego Yellowtail Fishing Charter Specs

We can keep five per person in Mexico and 10 in California.

Yellowtail are rather easy to hook when they are biting, but the hard part is reeling them in. They are one of the hardest fighting fish per pound we have in our waters out here in southern California.

We catch them on the surface and we catch them on the bottom. They live all over the water column and once we determine where we are seeing them, we figure out what the best method is to catch them.
